Compare and Contrast Essay
There are 2 sites that locate in Cambodia and the most
popular place in the country. They are Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. Siem Reap used
to be the capital city in the past, and Phnom Penh the current capital city in
the present. Some people think that these 2 cities share many things in common,
on the contrary, they consist of many differences.
One
primary difference is their size. Siem Reap locates at the south-east of the
country and covers 10299 square kilometers. This province has a population of
around 1 million. In addition, it has 12 districts and the central Siem Reap
account for 20% of the province’s overall population. It has Angkor Wat as a
landmark. Unlike Siem Reap, Phnom Penh locates at the bottom south and covers
only 679 square kilometers. It means that Siem Reap is 15 times larger.
Moreover, the capital city has a density of population of 3136/Km2 which makes
its total citizen half more than Siem Reap’s.
Another prioritized difference between them is traffic. Normally, Phnom
Penh is the capital city and it has more people with middle-class family
living, so there are more cars and motorbikes. It makes traffic on the road too
busy every day and almost every hour. However, due to a lower density of
people, Siem Reap’s traffic is not as active as Phnom Penh. Thus, it makes
people easier to travel from place to place and spend less time.
Finally, the atmosphere is one thing to consider living for some people.
Because Siem Reap has less traffic, it has less toxic gas in the air, so it
doesn’t affect people breathing health and makes the air cooler. Furthermore,
there are not many high buildings and houses around, it results in enough air.
Another thing is that Siem Reap has more natural places to enjoy like heritage
sites with many trees that makes scenic beauty of the nature. On the contrary,
Phnom Penh has more toxic gas in the air because it emits from people’s
vehicles and some factories. Thus, the air at Phnom Penh is not fresh for
citizen’s lungs. Also, the temperature is also warmer than in Siem Reap and constructions
make space so narrow.
Although Siem Reap and
Phnom Penh are 2 places locate in the same country, they are diverse in size,
traffic, and atmosphere. Nevertheless, people consider living in their favorite
place that makes them feel satisfied. For my point of view, the population in
Siem Reap will rise as many as Phnom Penh’s.
